Choose the right approach and ship to the stores.

Choosing the approach

Native, Flutter, React Native or a web app?

The honest answer depends on what the app must do. This is the comparison we walk clients through before recommending anything.

Native (Swift / Kotlin) Flutter React Native Progressive web app
Best for Hardware-heavy, high-performance or platform-specific apps Custom-branded UI on iOS, Android and web from one codebase Teams already using React, apps sharing logic with web Occasional-use tools without store distribution
Codebases Two One One (plus native modules) One
Device & OS features Full, immediately on release Very good via plugins Very good via native modules Limited (varies by browser)
UI approach Native platform components Own rendering engine, pixel-consistent Native components Browser
Team skills Swift and Kotlin Dart JavaScript / TypeScript Web
Watch out for Two teams to keep in step Larger app size; Dart hiring Native-module upkeep on OS upgrades No full push or offline support on every platform

Straight answers

When this is the right call, and when it is not

We would rather recommend less than sell you more. Here is how we judge it.

A good fit when

Consumer apps, field and workforce apps, and connected-device products that need to be reliable on real phones and real networks.

  • Store-ready apps for iOS and Android
  • Offline sync, push notifications and secure sign-in
  • Wearable and handheld-device apps for field and safety use
  • A responsive web app would serve users better

If people use it occasionally and need no offline use, device hardware or push notifications, a fast web app avoids two store releases.

  • Cross-platform when the app is hardware-heavy

Apps built around Bluetooth peripherals, AR or demanding graphics are often better native. We will say so even if a shared codebase sounds simpler.

  • Native when time and team capacity are tight

If you have one small team and standard features, two native codebases can slow every release. Flutter or React Native is usually the better fit.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Mobile & Cross-Platform Development

What mobile app development services does O Clock Software offer?

O Clock Software offers 13 mobile services: end-to-end mobile app development, iOS, Android, Flutter, React Native and cross-platform development, enterprise and wearable apps, mobile UI/UX development, mobile backends, testing, modernisation and maintenance.

Should I build a native or a cross-platform app?

Choose native when the app depends heavily on device hardware, platform-specific features or top-end performance; choose cross-platform when you want one codebase, consistent UI and faster releases on both platforms. We recommend after reviewing your features, team skills and roadmap.

Flutter or React Native: which is better?

Neither is better in general. Flutter gives pixel-consistent custom UI from one codebase and supports web well; React Native suits teams already working in React and TypeScript and apps sharing logic with a web product. Both are production-ready for most business apps.

Do you publish apps to the App Store and Google Play?

Yes. We handle store accounts setup guidance, builds, privacy declarations, screenshots, review submission and responses to reviewer feedback, and we plan around each store's policies from the start to avoid rejections.

Can you build apps that work offline?

Yes. We design offline-first apps that store data locally, queue changes and sync safely when the connection returns, which is common for field, delivery, retail and healthcare use.

Do you build smartwatch and wearable apps?

Yes. We build watchOS and Wear OS apps that use sensors such as heart rate and location, including safety apps with SOS alerts, as in our Hajj Safety Tracker project.

Can you take over or rebuild an existing app?

Yes. We audit the code, dependencies, crash data and store status, then either stabilise and maintain the app or plan a staged migration to a modern framework, keeping users on a working version throughout.

How do you keep apps working after new iOS and Android releases?

Maintenance includes testing against beta OS releases, updating SDKs and dependencies, fixing crashes from monitoring tools, and keeping store compliance current, so each OS update is planned rather than a surprise.
