What we build

Web Performance Optimization: what we build

Core Web Vitals, load time and server response improvements. Here are the six kinds of web performance optimization work we are asked for most often.

Where speed is lost

The six most common causes of a slow site

Almost every slow site we audit suffers from some mix of these. Each one hurts a specific Core Web Vital, which tells us where to start.

Bottleneck Metric it hurts most Typical fix
Large, unoptimised images Largest Contentful Paint Modern formats, responsive sizes, priority hints
Render-blocking CSS and JavaScript Largest Contentful Paint Critical CSS, deferred scripts, code splitting
Slow server response Largest Contentful Paint Caching, CDN, faster queries and hosting
Heavy third-party scripts Interaction to Next Paint Remove, delay or load them asynchronously
Long JavaScript tasks Interaction to Next Paint Break up work, reduce framework overhead
Late-loading fonts, ads and embeds Cumulative Layout Shift Reserve space, preload fonts, size embeds

Straight answers

Is Web Performance Optimization right for you?

We would rather recommend less than sell you more. Here is how we judge it.

A good fit when

  • Pages feel slow, especially on mobile
  • Search Console reports poor Core Web Vitals
  • Users drop off before pages finish loading
  • A redesign is planned and speed must improve
  • The site is already fast for real users

If field data is good, effort is better spent on content or features.

  • The slowness is in the database or API

That needs backend work; see Backend Development or Database Development.

  • You expect speed alone to lift rankings

Speed helps, but content and relevance matter more for rankings.

FAQ

Web Performance Optimization FAQ

What are Core Web Vitals?

Core Web Vitals are Google's three user-experience metrics: Largest Contentful Paint measures loading, Interaction to Next Paint measures responsiveness and Cumulative Layout Shift measures visual stability. Good thresholds are 2.5 seconds or less, 200 milliseconds or less and 0.1 or less.

Does page speed affect Google rankings?

Yes, as one of many signals. Core Web Vitals are part of Google's page experience signals, but relevance and content quality matter more; speed mainly helps by keeping visitors engaged.

Why does PageSpeed Insights show different scores each time?

Lab tests vary with network and server conditions. We rely on field data from real users, which Google uses for Core Web Vitals, and use lab tests to diagnose specific problems.

Can you speed up a WordPress or Shopify site?

Yes. Common gains come from removing unused plugins or apps, optimising images, deferring scripts, improving theme code and adding caching and a CDN.

How long before Core Web Vitals improve in Search Console?

Search Console reports a 28-day rolling window of real-user data, so improvements show gradually over about four weeks after fixes go live.

Is web performance optimization a one-off job?

The first round is a project, but new content, features and scripts can slow a site again. We recommend ongoing monitoring with alerts when metrics slip.
