Software Architecture Services systems designed for scale, security and change

O Clock Software, headquartered in Chennai, India, designs and reviews software architecture for new and existing systems. We assess scalability, security, availability, maintainability and data design against your real requirements, and record each decision so future teams understand why the system is built the way it is.

What we build

Software Architecture: what we build

Architecture design and reviews for scale, security and change. Here are the six kinds of software architecture services work we are asked for most often.

Architecture review

The six quality attributes we review

Every architecture is a set of trade-offs. These are the questions we ask, and the evidence we look for, in every review.

Quality attribute Question we ask Evidence we look for
Scalability Can it handle expected growth in users and data? Load test results and capacity plans
Security Are trust boundaries clear and controls in place? Threat model, access design and test results
Availability What happens when a component fails? Redundancy, failover tests and recovery targets
Maintainability Can teams change it safely and quickly? Module boundaries, test coverage and release frequency
Data Is data consistent, owned and protected? Data model, ownership and backup tests
Observability Will problems be seen before users report them? Logging, metrics, tracing and alerts

Straight answers

Is Software Architecture right for you?

We would rather recommend less than sell you more. Here is how we judge it.

A good fit when

  • You are starting a significant new system
  • The current system struggles with load or change
  • You face a major technology decision
  • You need an independent architecture review
  • The system is small and stable

A light review may be enough; a full architecture programme would be overkill.

  • The question is build or buy

    See Software Consulting.

  • You want microservices because others use them

We recommend the simplest architecture that meets your needs.

FAQ

Software Architecture FAQ

What does a software architect do?

A software architect designs the high-level structure of a system, chooses the patterns and technologies, and makes sure the design meets requirements for scale, security, availability and maintainability, then guides teams as they build it.

What is an architecture review?

An architecture review is an independent assessment of an existing system's structure against its requirements. It identifies risks and bottlenecks and gives prioritised recommendations.

Should we use microservices or a monolith?

Start with a well-structured modular monolith in most cases. Microservices make sense when several teams need to release independently or parts of the system have very different scaling needs.

What is an architecture decision record?

An architecture decision record (ADR) is a short document capturing an important design decision, its context, the options considered and the reasons for the choice, so future teams understand why the system is built as it is.

Can you review an architecture designed by another team?

Yes. We review documentation, code and runtime behaviour, interview the team, and give an independent, prioritised set of findings.

How do you validate an architecture before building?

We build small proofs of concept for the riskiest parts and run load and failure tests, so major assumptions are proven before full development.
